My Story

I’m Jhanvi Jain, a counseling psychologist and founder of WHYNOTT. 

Growing up, I asked a lot of questions - I needed answers, explanations, or some sense of understanding. I later learnt the term for it - curiosity. Ever since then, I have been curious to understand the human mind with all its complexities. 

 

I pursued my undergraduate degree from SUNNY Buffalo, NY, in Biomedical Sciences and Psychology. Through my experience in college, working in various research labs , 

I learnt about human behaviors and mind. This only increased my interest and curiosity to learn more about humans.

 

For my master’s, I went to NEW YORK UNIVERSITY, NY where I pursued Mental Health and Well Being Counseling. Working with a diverse population, something that became clear to me was the power of having a voice and being heard, the cage of our past , and the fight for autonomy we all face. 

 

My work as a therapist began with that basic understanding. Today, I believe that I am an eclectic practitioner, with a heavy inclination towards psychodynamic and trauma focused approach. 

 

My greatest aspiration as a therapist is to meet you where you are in the process and provide you with a safe, secure, and non-judgmental environment to grow, heal, and thrive in. I want to help you explore problematic areas in your lives that may be hindering you from living the life you aspire. I strive to make this journey, that we as a team will embark upon, very open, honest, and supportive. Through our work together, I want to help you look forward to the future with hope, and construct a life you love.

I will meet you with compassion, accept you for who you are, and respect your individual needs. I strongly believe in tailoring to your needs and providing you with the care to enable growth. I draw techniques from different modalities including Psychodynamic Therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), narrative therapy, dialectical-behavioral therapy (DBT), acceptance & commitment therapy (ACT), and mindfulness. I work on integrating the mind, body, and spirit by embracing creative means of self-expression like play & drama therapy.

 

I am an avid reader and a passionate baker, who enjoys taking long walks in the park, exploring new cafes and cuddling with dogs.

 

I am very dedicated to help you meet your goals and make this process a fulfilling one. If you believe we would be a good fit and I would be able to help you curate the life you want, I would be committed to walk with you on this path!
